Series of main breaks causes water outages in the Northland Saturday, August 28, 2010
Due to six water main breaks near Spruce and Vivion Road, Munger and Seattle, Poe and 69 Highway, and 56th and NE Barnes Rd. approximately 300 northland and Claycomo water customers may be experiencing low or no water pressure. The lines are expected to be repaired by this evening.

Health Department expands online food handler class options Thursday, August 26, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department has announced a partnership with ServSafe Food Safety® to offer an additional online food handler training option. The training, which can be completed in about an hour, is an alternative to the food handler training course offered at the Health Department, which will continue to be an option.

KC Municipal Court eliminates $7 surcharge Thursday, August 26, 2010
The Municipal Court of Kansas City, Mo. will no longer assess a $7 surcharge for court costs to persons who are found guilty or plead guilty for civil and criminal offenses.

Municipal Veterans Court selected for training program Thursday, August 26, 2010
The Municipal Veterans Court of the City of Kansas City, Mo. has been selected to participate in the second training program of the Veterans Treatment Court Planning Initiative, tentatively scheduled for February 2011. The VTCPI, which is the first Veterans Treatment Court training program in the United States, established its training programs to help courts improve their services to Veterans and their communities.

City mourns the loss of Rich Noll, assistant city manager Wednesday, August 25, 2010
Rich Noll, Assistant City Manager of the City of Kansas City, Mo., passed away August 25, 2010 following a sudden illness. With Noll’s passing the City has lost a gifted employee and long-time friend. Noll worked for the City in a variety of capacities for 27 years, most recently filling the role of Acting Director of the Water Services Department. Noll was respected as a professional and personable individual.

KCI Airport reports July traffic Tuesday, August 24, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 961,586 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in July, which represents a decrease of 1.8 percent from July 2009. Passenger boardings at KCI were down 1.4 percent, with a total of 486,227 during July. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 2,885,032, an increase of 1.5 percent from the same period last year.

Residents advised about wastewater overflow into creek that leads to the Blue River Monday, August 23, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department Wastewater Maintenance crews responded to a water in the basement call at 3805 E. 68th Terr. and found sewage surfacing from the ground in the utility easement at the rear of this address at 5:30 pm, August 22nd. The sewage was flowing over a retaining wall onto Cleveland Ave. at an estimated rate of 10 gpm into a stormwater catch basin. The storm pipe exits into an unnamed creek which leads to the Blue River. The City’s drinking water supply is not affected by this overflow.

Road closures begin for Troost Bridge project Friday, August 20, 2010
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Capital Improvement Office is alerting motorists that continued work on the Troost Avenue/Volker Boulevard improvement project will result in a 10-day closure of Volker Boulevard, between The Paseo Boulevard and Rockhill Road, beginning Sept. 7. This closure will be followed by a year-long closure of Troost Avenue, between Emanuel Cleaver Boulevard and Volker Boulevard.

Software update will temporarily impact City’s 3-1-1 service Thursday, August 19, 2010
A software update by the City of Kansas City, Mo., Information Technology Department, will result in some non emergency software systems at City Hall being temporarily shut down between 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19 and 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23. This temporary shutdown will have an impact on several departments and offices, including the City’s 3-1-1 Action Center.
