City renews WIC contract

The City of Kansas City, Mo. announces the renewal of a contract to provide services through Missouri’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, commonly known as WIC. The contract between the City and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services will allow the City’s Health Department to serve 300 clients each month for the next federal fiscal year, which will last through September 2011. The contract is renewed annually.

WIC clinic services are available through this contract at the following locations:

    • Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave., on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

    • Hickman Mills School District Early Childhood Educational Center, 9201 E. Bannister Road, on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    • Boone Elementary School, 8817 Wornall Road, on Wednesdays from 8-11:30 a.m.

“As one of five major WIC providers in Kansas City, our goal is to fill the gap and continue to make WIC available to those who are not able to access services through the other providers,” said Ron Griffin, manager of the Health Department’s Communicable Disease Prevention and Public Health Preparedness division.

Services offered by WIC include nutritious food to supplement the regular diet, recommendations for healthy eating and referrals for health care. The following groups are eligible for this program:

    • Infants and children under the age of five; and

    • Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have recently given birth.

All participants must meet income guidelines.

To set up an appointment to see if you qualify, call 816-513-6360. For more information on WIC clinic services, visit the Health Department website at or the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services’ WIC website at

WIC is an equal opportunity program and services are provided on a nondiscriminatory basis.
