Dodgeball tournament’s early bird deadline extended to Nov. 10
The early bird deadline to Dodging Homelessness, a dodgeball tournament taking place to raise youth homelessness awareness, has been extended to Nov. 10. The tournament will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Southeast Community Center, 4201 E. 63rd St. and is sponsored by the City of Kansas City, Mo., Office of Civic and Community Engagement, and reStart Inc., an interfaith ministry that serves the homeless.
Statistics indicate that more than 2,000 homeless youth live in the Kansas City area. In the entire five-county metropolitan area, there are only 59 emergency shelter beds and 119 transitional beds available for such youth. In 2009, reStart served 188 unaccompanied homeless youth ages 12-18 in its Youth Emergency Shelter.
Early bird registration is $100 per team, and regular registration is $150 per team after Nov. 10. Other monetary donations will also be accepted. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to reStart and other youth initiatives.
Teams may register online at www.kcmo.org/engagekc.
