Young leaders support Christmas in October recipients
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Civic and Community Engagement Office, in conjunction with the Engage KC Leadership Board, has recruited youth volunteers to participate in the Christmas in October program on Saturday, Oct. 9.
“Projects of this nature are a great example of how young people in Kansas City are contributing to making Kansas City a wonderful community,” said Councilwoman Sharon Sanders-Brooks.
Christmas in October, one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the U.S., has made repairs and renovations on more than 500 houses annually in the Kansas City area since its inception in 1984. Members of the leadership board will join the hundreds of volunteers who have committed to rehabilitating the houses of low-income homeowners in the Kansas City community.
“Christmas in October helps hundreds of families every year,” said Mayor Mark Funkhouser. “I’m happy that Kansas City takes part in such a worthwhile event that gives back to the local community.”
“This effort would not be possible if it were not for caring people of all ages”, said Engage KC Board Jeremy Davis. Davis is also the managing director of the Christmas in October organization.
