Good Neighbor Awards recognize acts of kindness
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Neighborhood Community Services Department will hold the fourth Good Neighbor Awards ceremony on Aug. 3, at about 8 p.m., as part of the Kansas City Community Partners National Night Out 2010 presentation in Parade Park, Truman Rd. and Paseo Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri.
“This venue is probably the most perfect venue we have ever had for these awards,” said David Park, acting director, Neighborhood and Community Services Department. “Night Out shows everyone coming together as a community, and this is part of what being a good neighbor is, coming together, watching out for each other, helping each other when in need.”
The awards come from resident input and recognize City residents from a variety of areas and neighborhoods who have provided a substantial service to the community. Neighborhood associations and community groups may make nominations to the 3-1-1 Action Center throughout the year. On a quarterly basis the City will recognize a “good neighbor”. The nominee must demonstrate an on-going spirit of compassion and helpfulness to his/her neighbors.
"Kansas City's neighborhoods are the backbone of our City and these recipients of the Good Neighbor Award are perfect examples of how each citizen can make a difference in their own neighborhood," said Mayor Mark Funkhouser. "Kansas City must continue to recognize the need to keep our neighborhoods attractive and safe above all else if we hope to succeed moving forward."
The Neighborhood Services Division selects finalists from the pool of candidates. Each of the selected nominees will receive a Good Neighbor Award. The Good Neighbor Awards Program is the City’s way of thanking the residents who are committed to preserving, maintaining and improving the quality of life in their neighborhoods and our community.
