City employees recognized for procurement credentials
Three employees of the City of Kansas City, Mo. General Services Department’s Procurement Services Division have been recognized for earning professional credentials in their field. In May, Assistant Procurement Manager Renee Haskin completed the examination to be recognized as a Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO), and Senior Buyers Karen Wang and Keely Golden successfully completed examinations to be recognized as Certified Professional Public Buyers (CPPBs).
“I personally commend and congratulate our staff in their ongoing efforts to further their education,” said Gerald Smith, director of General Services. “It is of great importance that all of our employees are encouraged to pursue certifications and credentials within their professional fields.”
To date, only 1,891 purchasing professionals have achieved the CPPO designation and 8,358 the CPPB. To become certified, candidates must demonstrate that they meet requisites established by the Universal Public Purchasing Certification Council, including formal education, procurement-related coursework, training and public purchasing experience. A comprehensive written examination confirms the candidate’s mastery of public purchasing knowledge.
“The achievement of these certifications speaks to the professionalism this Division has been building for the past three years,” Cedric Rowan, manager of procurement services said. “I applaud these employees for their tenacity in striving to obtain this recognition in our profession.”
