KCI Airport passenger traffic up 2.5 percent in May

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 889,071 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in May, which represents an increase of 2.5 percent from May 2009. Passenger boardings at KCI were up 2.5 percent, with a total of 454,960 during May. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 1,923,759, an increase of 1.9 percent from the same period last year.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for May was 197. Service was offered to 47 nonstop markets. There was an average of 38,362 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 1.8 percent from last year.

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 2.1 percent in May. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is down 6.3 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during May amounted to over 15 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 2.8 percent. Air mail for May was down 14.6 percent from May 2009. The all-cargo carriers reported 4 daily departures for May.
