Kansas City to partner with St. Louis to lobby State lawmakers at Capitol
Members of the City of Kansas City, Mo., City Council and members of the City of St. Louis Board of Aldermen will lobby members of the Missouri General Assembly in Jefferson City on Monday afternoon, March 29 and Tuesday morning, March 30.
"We wanted to follow up on our meeting on the earnings tax a few weeks ago and tell the legislators what a role the big cities in Missouri play in creating revenues for the State," said Councilwoman Cindy Circo, 5th District at large. "We generate 70 percent of the State’s economic output and therefore the State’s revenues, which fund the State budget,” Circo said.
Plans are for the city council members and aldermen to convene Monday afternoon at the Missouri State Capitol, 201 W. Capitol Ave. A dinner for legislators also is planned for Monday evening at the Doubletree Hotel Jefferson City.
“We are going to continue to work with our St. Louis counterparts, especially on economic development,” said City Council Legislative Committee Chairman John Sharp, 6th District. “We have to continually discuss how important our two economies are for the State’s economy,” Sharp said.
