Next phase of East Village project to start later this month Wednesday, March 4, 2009
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Capital Improvements Management Office, a division of the City Manager’s Office, has issued a notice to proceed on the next phase of the East Village downtown revitalization project. The $1.6 million acquisition, remediation and demolition of the ReStart Inc., building at 601 E. 11th St. is expected to start later this month and be completed in late spring or early summer.

Construction of new Metro Patrol police station under way Wednesday, March 4, 2009

City sees strong market reception for water revenue bonds Friday, February 27, 2009
The City of Kansas City, Mo., successfully issued $198,915,000 in Water Refunding and Improvement Revenue Bonds, Series 2009A, from Feb. 25-26. The bonds were issued through a negotiated sale process to refund approximately $133 million of outstanding debt and to provide approximately $69 million to fund capital improvements to the City’s water treatment and distribution system. The projects are expected to be completed in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.

Health Department notified of HUD grant award Friday, February 27, 2009
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program will receive federal funds to continue its fight against childhood lead poisoning. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control contacted the Health Department in writing earlier this week with the information.

Animal shelter operation shifts to private operator Thursday, February 26, 2009
As of March 1, the operation of the City of Kansas City, Mo., animal shelter located at 4400 Raytown Road will be managed by Veterinary Management Corp. This change is expected to save the City $175,000 annually.
