FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 1, 2009
New detours for North Gower Drive construction project
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is alerting motorists that new detour routes have been posted for the North Gower Drive improvement project.
This project will realign North Gower Drive to smooth out the transition and connection of Northwest 64th Street and Northwest 68th Street, replace the Bryan Avenue Bridge and upgrade traffic capacity in the area from two to four lanes.
Construction is expected to last through fall 2009. During that time, Waukomis Drive between Northwest 70th Terrace and Northwest 68th Street will be closed. In addition, Bryan Avenue will be closed 100 feet west of Waukomis Drive, and Robinhood Lane will be closed 100 feet north of Waukomis Drive. Northwest Gower Drive also will be closed from Waukomis Drive to Northwest 67th Street. All streets will remain open for local traffic.
Suggested alternate routes include taking Barry Road to Missouri Highway 169 to reach Northwest 68th Street and Barry Road to Interstate 29 to reach Northwest 64th Street. Motorists should take I-29 to the Waukomis Drive exit if they want to access Waukomis Drive in the interim.
All construction and demolition work is done as long as weather permits. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution in areas adjacent to active construction sites.
