Construction of new Metro Patrol police station under way
Construction has started on Kansas City’s new Metro Patrol police station, near 77th Street and Prospect Avenue. Work is scheduled to be completed in spring 2010. The new facility will replace the existing Metro Patrol station at 1880 E. 63rd St.
The 27,500-square-foot facility will provide space for administrative functions, line functions, detention and control and public outreach.
This project has been designed to be an environmentally sustainable project that will achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver rating. The facility’s site location was chosen to minimize solar heat gains in the summer. Additionally, native species of ground cover, grasses and shade trees as well as areas of bioretention to handle stormwater runoff were chosen to create an environmentally friendly landscape.
