City again successfully challenges official Census population
City Manager Wayne A. Cauthen has announced that the City of Kansas City, Mo., has successfully appealed to the U.S. Census Bureau to increase the official population of Kansas City, Mo., for the second consecutive year. The official population is now 480,129.
"I am glad to be informed about the adjustment, which reflects that there is population growth in the City of Kansas City, Mo." said Sharon Sanders Brooks, City Councilwoman, 3rd District.
“The next estimating process was already under way by the time the City’s appeal was accepted earlier this year, so we had to undertake the process again, and thankfully, we were successful,” Cauthen said. “Although we had been through the appeal process before, it required a great deal of staff work to make sure every resident was counted.”
The City is currently working with the U.S. Census Bureau to train workers for the next official head-count, which will take place in 2010. Official Census populations are used for a variety of funding formulas at both the state and federal levels.
