Joint stimulus application nets City $2.55 million for police funding
The City of Kansas City, Mo., joined seven other local agencies in a joint application that brought more than $4.34 million in funding to the metro area from the U.S. Department of Justice through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The funding will be allocated as follows: the City of Kansas City, Mo.: $2.55 million; Jackson County: $1,130,734; Independence, Mo.: $416,746; Grandview, Mo.: $90,600; Lee’s Summit, Mo.: $62,699; Blue Springs, Mo.: $43,276; Raytown, Mo.: $41,572; and Sugar Creek, Mo.: $10,050.
The City plans to use the funds to keep Kansas City Police Department officers on the streets and critical civilian support positions in place. Jackson County and the other municipalities intend to use the funds for detention space, prisoner re-entry services, technology upgrades and the purchase of law enforcement related equipment.
