FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 6, 2009
Gower Road construction closes portions of Waukomis Drive
The City of Kansas City, Mo., is alerting motorists that upcoming construction on Northwest Gower Road will result in several road closures in the area near Northwest 70th Terrace and Waukomis Road beginning March 12. Waukomis Drive between Northwest 70th Terrace and Northwest 68th Street will be closed.
In addition, Northwest Bryan Avenue will be closed 100 feet west of Waukomis Drive and Robinhood Lane will be closed 100 feet north of Waukomis Drive. Northwest Gower Drive will also be closed from Waukomis Drive to Northwest 67th Street. All streets will remain open for local traffic. All roads are expected to be closed through March 2010.
Suggested alternate routes include taking Northwest Bryan Avenue west to Northwest Linden Road and then heading north on North Overland Drive, west on Northwest 72nd Street and northwest on Northwest Hickory Lane to get to South Shore Drive.
These closures are associated with the planned realignment of Northwest Gower Road to connect with 64th and 68th streets.
All construction and demolition work is done as long as weather permits. Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution in areas adjacent to active construction sites. Construction schedules on all of these projects are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
