City suspends liquor license of Embassy for five days

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Regulated Industries Division and the management of Embassy have agreed to a five-day suspension of the establishment's liquor license. Embassy is located at 3945 Main St.

This suspension is the result of violations of City ordinances. The suspension will start Oct. 16 at 6 a.m. and will end Oct. 21 at 1:30 a.m. As a condition of the suspension, the management has agreed to provide education, training and instruction to employees about City ordinances.

"The severity of the suspension reflects the gravity of the offence," said Gary Majors, manager of the Regulated Industries Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department.

The Regulated Industries Division cited Embassy with violations of these sections of the City ordinance:

- Section 10-334. Closed place
- The premises of any sales-by-drink shall be a closed place with all doors locked and no persons upon the premises, on all days and at all times during which the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited by this chapter, or not permitted by the license, except under the following conditions:
- (2) If the license authorizing the sale of alcoholic beverages is held by a restaurant where substantial quantities of food are served, the licensee may remain open for the purpose of serving food if all alcoholic beverages previously dispensed to customers are removed from all customers, and all refrigerators, cabinets, cases, boxes and taps from which alcoholic beverages may be dispensed are and remain securely locked, and the director has been notified in writing of the extended opening at least 30 days in advance of the extension.

- Section 12-149. Violations by licensee or employees
- It shall be unlawful for any licensee mentioned in this article, or his agent, servant or employee, to
- (1) Permit the licensed premises to remain open for business between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.; except that those businesses which have obtained a Convention Trade Area 3 a.m. closing permit in accordance with Section 10-126 may remain open until 3 a.m.
- (3) Allow or permit alcoholic beverages, as defined in Chapter 10, to be brought onto or consumed on the premises, unless such premises are properly licensed for the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Media inquiries about this issue should be directed to Teresa L. Clark, public information officer for the Neighborhood and Community Services Department, (816) 513-3247.
