City prepares for Sister Cities 2008 International Conference
Country Club Plaza bridge to highlight different sister cities for seven weeks
The City of Kansas City Mo., is hosting the 2008 Sister Cities International annual conference July 16-19, and the International Affairs and Trade Office, a division of the City Manager’s Office, is orchestrating a program on the Country Club Plaza to mark the event.
The Sister Cities Bridge on the Country Club Plaza will feature one of the City’s sister cities each of the next seven weeks each week until the conference opens July 16.
The City’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Sister Cities Association of Kansas City are partners on the bridge recognition project, which began this week with Port Harcourt, Nigeria and Freetown, Sierra Leon. The bridge promotion includes flags, symbols and cultural decorations representing Kansas City’s sister cities program, which began with Seville, Spain in 1967.
