City garage improvement project wins international award

The $6.7 million Auditorium Plaza Garage repair and improvement project recently won the International Concrete Repair Institute’s 2007 ICRI Award of Excellence. The award recognizes the best project among all international entries submitted in the parking structures award category.

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Capital Improvements Management Office, a division of the City Manager’s Office, managed the project.

Structural Engineering Associates designed and engineered the project and Kraus Anderson Inc., was the general contractor. Mid-Co Contractors Inc. was the repair contractor, BASF Building Systems was the material suppliers and the Quikrete Companies were the manufacturers.

The Auditorium Plaza Garage repair and improvement project restored and enhanced the municipal parking garage located at 13th and Main streets near Barney Allis Plaza by repairing and waterproofing the space, providing new lighting, painting and repairing the pedestrian walkway, which connects the garage to tunnels and various nearby buildings.

Media inquiries should be directed to Deanna Richards, communications specialist in the Capital Improvements Management Office, (816) 513-2757.
