2007 Avenue of the Arts continues to invigorate downtown Tuesday, June 12, 2007
Installation work will conclude later this week on one of Kansas City's most progressive public art projects. In its eighth year, Avenue of the Arts provides an opportunity for artists to gain direct experience with the development and installation of art in the public environment. This year's collection includes six site-specific public art installations positioned along Central Street between Ninth and 14th streets. The exhibition will remain on display through September.

A new group of young people will begin their term on the City of Kansas City, Mo., Youth Commission on June 11 with a swearing in ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 414 E. 12th St., in the committee room on the 10th floor. The commission will conduct its first meeting immediately following the ceremony.

Central business district repaving to begin Tuesday, June 5, 2007
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is alerting motorists that streets in the central business district will be repaved this summer. While much of the repaving will occur on evenings and weekends to reduce the impact of lane closures, motorists should be aware that some repaving will occur during the workweek, and closures and delays are likely to occur.

City converts $115 million variable rate bonds to fixed rate Friday, May 25, 2007
The City of Kansas City, Mo., on May 22 successfully priced a fixed rate conversion of a portion of its $295 million of outstanding variable rate bonds previously issued for the downtown entertainment district project. The City's Industrial Development Authority issued the $114.9 million refinancing. The net proceeds of the refinancing will be used to redeem the authority's outstanding $115 million series 2005A variable rate bonds that had been issued in variable rate mode with interest rates being reset weekly.

Starting May 16, the north lane of 12th Street from Grand Boulevard to McGee Street will close. This lane closure is necessary to accommodate Kansas City Power & Light's replacement of existing utility vaults in conjunction with the City of Kansas City, Mo., 12th Street streetscape improvement project.
