City celebrates 70 years in City Hall
The public is invited to attend City Hall’s 70th anniversary celebration, to be held Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. on the building’s north plaza, 414 E. 12th Street.
The event will include speeches by local leaders and refreshments will be available. Attendees will receive a calendar commemorating the past seven decades.
Initial construction on City Hall began in December 1935 and lasted for 22 months. The building was officially dedicated on Oct. 25, 1937. Its construction was part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal program, which aimed to counter the adverse economic effects of the Great Depression.
