Regional police training facility opens
Construction is complete on the new Regional Police Training Academy at Pleasant Valley Road and North Shoal Creek Parkway and the facility’s administrative staff is scheduled to begin moving in this week. The facility also houses the Shoal Creek Patrol Division station.
The 100,000-square-foot building has a 500-seat auditorium, administrative offices for both in-service and recruitment training staff and six classrooms. Physical training facilities include a gymnasium with basketball court, a weight room, a fitness room and facilities for lockers and showers.
The academy has a 22,500-square foot indoor pistol range with 30 lanes and a 200-yard outdoor rifle range. A 1.1-mile driving track with interior intersecting streets and a situational training building also are located onsite for training new recruits. Cadets will begin attending classes at the facility Sept. 17.
At this time, access to the police campus is available via North Shoal Creek Drive. Those trying to access the police campus from I-435 should take the North Shoal Creek Drive exit and proceed south. The entrance on the east side of the campus is temporarily closed while construction on North Pleasant Valley Road takes place.
