Improvements to Second Street will be done between Oak and Delaware streets in the River Market district.
Improvements include the separation of storm and sanitary sewers and the creation of a new asphalt street, including sidewalks, curbs, street lighting, storm inlets and various streetscape amenities. Construction is scheduled to begin Sept. 26.
Honored guests include former City of Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Kay Barnes, City Councilmen Russ Johnson and Ed Ford, 2nd District, as well as representatives from the neighborhood, the City and Brian Clark and Associates, the project’s design team.
The public is invited to attend a block party hosted by area businesses, which will be held in the parking lot at First and Main streets directly after the groundbreaking celebration. Festivities will include refreshments and entertainment.
