City employees volunteer at annual "Stand Down" for homeless vets
More than 125 City employees will volunteer at the "Heart of America Annual Stand Down" for Kansas City’s homeless veterans on June 22-23.
The 14th annual event, which this year coincides with the annual "Day of Caring" activities, will be at the Metro Tech Center, 1215 E. Truman Road and at Municipal Court, 1101 Locust.
"We are pleased to have so many City employees demonstrating their commitment to the community in which we live and work," said Kansas City Combined Charities Campaign Committee chairwoman Rusty Williams.
City employees will assist veterans from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on June 22, and from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on June 23. Volunteers will help staff various booths, which will provide identification cards, clothing, hair cuts, warm meals, entertainment and tax preparation. In addition, Municipal Court employees will help veterans with legal matters.
City employees also will set up the booths on June 21 and dismantle them at the end of the project on June 23.
