KC After Dark offers youth fun, recreational activities

One fee pays for weekly activities through August

For only $50, youth ages 11-18 can participate in supervised, evening, weekly activities through August. These activities include visits to Tiffany Springs Water Park, Paradise Park and Power Play.

The City of Kansas City, Mo., KC After Dark -- Summer Youth Jam is offering this project to residents looking for affordable, recreational activities. Activities for ages 11-14 are held Friday and the activities for ages 15-18 are held Saturday, from 7-10 p.m. both days. Members may participate in as many activities as they like.

"The $50 membership fee covers all the admittance costs for the individual outings. The City is committed to helping young people find safe, fun, recreational activities. Our hope is that by exposing young people to these activities in an organized setting, that they will have a good time and explore new experiences," said Thalia Cherry, manager of the Youth Advocacy Office (a division of the City Manager's Office).

A kick-off party will be held June 16 from 3-5 p.m. at the Paseo Academy of the Performing Arts, located at 4747 Flora Ave.

To participate in these activities, members must report to one of the four designated community centers at 6:30 p.m. The designated centers are Gregg/Klice, Hillcrest, Line Creek and Westport-Roanoke. Activities will be held June 22, 23, 29 and 30; July 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28; and Aug. 3, 4, 10, 11 and 17.

Mandatory transportation is provided from the community centers to the place where the activity will take place, and then back to the community center. No transportation will be provided for the kick-off party.
