FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 5, 2007
Central business district repaving to begin
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is alerting motorists that streets in the central business district will be repaved this summer. While much of the repaving will occur on evenings and weekends to reduce the impact of lane closures, motorists should be aware that some repaving will occur during the workweek, and closures and delays are likely to occur.
The repaving of this area is part of a $4.5 million first phase of a paving program that will improve street conditions in this part of Kansas City and in neighborhoods. The second phase of the paving program, providing $10 million of paving projects throughout the city, is scheduled for contracting this summer.
Streets in the central business district that are included in the first phase of the paving program include portions of Baltimore Avenue, Broadway Street, Central Avenue, Cherry Street, Grand Boulevard, Main Street, Oak Street, Page Avenue, Superior Avenue and Truman Road. Additionally, paving will occur on portions of Seventh Street, Ninth Street through Fourteenth Street, and Nineteenth Street.
A complete list of streets that are scheduled for the first phase of the paving program can be found at www.kcmo.org/pubworks.nsf/web/pwstpres on the City's Web site.
Media inquiries and other requests for more information about the paving of streets should be directed to Dennis Gagnon, public information officer for the Public Works Department, (816) 513-2659.
