Tow lot auctions start in May
Pilot program will sell cars at below-retail prices

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Tow Services Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department will have its first Premium Auto Auction on May 22.

The goals of the City's first Premium Auto Auction, and the other pilot auctions scheduled for June 19 and July 31, are to provide an opportunity for buyers to purchase a car at a lower than retail price. There is no reserve on these vehicles and they will be sold to the highest bidder. Many of the vehicles being sold were obtained through police actions and seizures.

"These vehicles are in great condition and we felt the community should be given a chance to save thousands of dollars when buying a vehicle through this program," said Mike Schumacher, manager of the Tow Services Division. "Every month we will be selling these vehicles, as well as City vehicles that are no longer needed, in hopes of providing our customers an opportunity to purchase vehicles well below-retail prices."

The pilot program will be evaluated to determine if the program continues.
