FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jan. 12, 2007

Public meeting for proposed MWDBE and work force ordinance changes Jan. 16

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Human Relations Division of the City Manager's Office is hosting a town hall meeting Jan. 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. about proposed ordinance changes. The discussion will focus on the minority, women and disadvantaged business enterprise ordinance, as well as draft language for a new work force employment ordinance. The meeting will be at the Gregg Community Center, located at 1600 John "Buck" O'Neil Way (the corner of 16th Street and The Paseo).

"We are asking stakeholders and other interested community members to attend this meeting about City ordinances that regulate City contracts, MWDBE goals and work force employment opportunities," said Phillip Yelder, manager of the Human Relations Division. "The City has always addressed minority and women participation as it relates to contracts, however, these new initiatives would allow for greater support of inclusiveness and hiring opportunities, as set forth by the Human Relations Division."

The meeting is being held to educate contractors, the business community and the public about proposed ordinance changes. The proposal includes an addition to Chapter 38, Articles I and II of the City Code of Ordinances as it relates to companies that contract with the City of Kansas City, Mo., including those receiving tax increment financing, and draft language regarding the proposed work force employment ordinance.

For more information about this town hall meeting, call Phillip Yelder, manager of the Human Relations Division, (816) 513-1801.
