City to hold first Citywide Career Fair Sept. 23

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Human Resources Department is conducting a Citywide Career Fair on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Bartle Hall Convention Center, 301 W. 13th St. The career fair is scheduled to include live, local radio broadcasts and appearances by members of the Kansas City Brigades.

The event will showcase the variety of career opportunities available with the City. Anyone interested in a career with City government can take advantage of this informational opportunity. Representatives from many departments will be onsite with information about specific job opportunities, and attendees can complete online employment applications for a wide range of positions such as animal control officers, maintenance workers, public health specialists, fleet maintenance technicians, tow truck operators, meter readers and code enforcement officers.

Just last week, the City Council adopted higher pay standards for hourly positions with the hope of increasing the City's ability to attract employees. The City currently has hundreds of vacancies and the fair will be a way for Kansas Citians to easily apply for various openings.

"An event of this magnitude would not be even remotely possible without the assistance of hundreds of City employees. This City has much to showcase and this is just one creative way to do just that," said Gary O'Bannon, director of the Human Resources Department.
