Hoop it Up competition in Kansas City from June 24-25

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Youth Commission will sponsor the national Hoop it Up Tour three-on-three basketball competition June 24-25 in Parade Park, 1600 E. 17th Terrace.

Interested basketball players ages 10 and older are encouraged to register before June 12 at or in person at the Gregg/Klice Community Center, 1600 E. 17th Terrace. Registration is $140 per team and includes a T-shirt for each player, a minimum of three scheduled games and awards for first and second place finishers.

Each first, second, third and fourth place team from each age and skill level will qualify for the 2006 Hoop it Up World Championships in Florida from Aug. 12-13.

"If you want to see the next Dwayne Wade or Kobe Bryant perform and display their skills, Hoop it Up is the event," said Amanda Morrall, Kansas City Youth Commissioner. "Only the hottest talent is on the court, and only the spectators sit on the bench."

Hoop it Up also will feature a slam dunk contest and three-point shoot out. Mayor Kay Barnes and City Manager Wayne A. Cauthen will participate as judges of the slam dunk contest.

Additional sponsors for the local Hoop it Up event include the City's Parks and Recreation Department and the Carter Broadcast Group's Hot 103 Jamz radio station.

For more information about this event, call Thalia Cherry, youth advocate in the City Manager's Office, (816) 513-1378.
