City attorney seeks opinion of Supreme Court of Missouri
City Attorney Galen Beaufort is requesting a formal opinion from the advisory committee of the Supreme Court of Missouri on the implementation of offering "no points" plea bargains to unrepresented defendants. If necessary, he may petition the Missouri Supreme Court for its review of such a decision.
"If the opinion is that such a practice can be done ethically, the practice will be implemented in the future. If the opinion is otherwise, then the practice will not be implemented," Beaufort said.
Therefore, the "no points" plea bargain policy that was announced April 21 will not be implemented May 8.
