FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jan. 12, 2006
Lexington Avenue Bridge closing Jan. 16
The Lexington Avenue Bridge over North Chestnut Trafficway will be closed beginning Monday, Jan. 16. This closure will affect eastbound and westbound traffic on Lexington Avenue from Prospect Avenue to Bellefontaine Avenue. This closure is anticipated to last until August.
Officials from the City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department suggest that motorists use the following detour routes:
Eastbound traffic on Lexington Avenue should head south on Prospect Avenue to Independence Avenue, then north on Benton Boulevard.
Westbound traffic should take Benton Boulevard south to Independence Avenue, then head north on Prospect Avenue to Lexington Avenue.
Construction of this project includes resurfacing, structural repair to the bridge’s support pedestals, downspout extensions and a new coat of paint. In addition, the sections of road that lead from the street to the bridge will be replaced and pedestrian sidewalks will be repaired and expanded.
Progress on this and other capital improvements projects can be monitored by visiting the public access link located on the Capital Improvements Management Office’s Web site (www.kcmo.org/cimo).
