FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dec. 9, 2013

Airport Terminal Advisory Group public hearing to be continued Dec. 17

The City of Kansas City, Mo.’s Airport Terminal Advisory Group will continue its public hearing at its next regularly scheduled meeting, Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 a.m. The hearing will take place in the City Council chambers, on the 26th floor of City Hall, 414 E. 12th St.

The public is invited to voice their opinions about potential changes to the configuration of Kansas City International Airport’s terminals. The advisory group is specifically hoping for input on what questions the public wants to ask of the airline representatives, who will speak at the Jan. 14 advisory group meeting. Individuals testifying will be asked to submit their questions, name and address in writing and limit their testimony to two minutes. This will allow everyone a chance to provide input.

Individuals also may submit written testimony to KCITerminalAdvisoryGroup@kcmo.org. Comments will be read by advisory group members and will be entered into the public record.

Individuals interested in learning more about KCI’s operations can view the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsPYlHmlmRc. It features a behind the scenes tour of Kansas City International Airport taken by members of the advisory group as they learned about the airport’s infrastructure, security and other operational issues.

The advisory group comprises community members from across the metro area appointed by Mayor Sly James. Members have been meeting twice a month since July to study airport issues and learn more about airport operations and the potential impact of any change.

The group expects to make a recommendation in April 2014 to Mayor Sly James and the City Council. The City Council must approve any new plans for the terminal configuration, and the public must vote on any change requiring issuing bonds to finance the project.

There will be more opportunities for public comments during upcoming town hall meetings, to be scheduled in February and/or March.

Any person with a disability who desires reasonable accommodation to attend this meeting may contact the City’s 311 Call Center at 311 or 816-513-1313, or for TTY, 816-513-1889, or by email at 3-1-1.Call.Center@kcmo.org.
