Main Street bridge reopens Friday, Dec. 6
Project includes first downtown streetcar tracks
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is notifying motorists that construction on the new Main Street bridge over Interstate 670 is finished, and the intersection at Truman Road and Main Street will reopen before evening rush hour today, Friday, Dec. 6.
The $2.75 million project includes a new, three-lane concrete bridge with improved vertical clearance. In addition, crews widened sidewalks on the bridge, improved crosswalks and ramps on Truman Road and installed updated lighting. Decorative fencing will be installed by the end of the year.
Downtown streetcar crews took advantage of the construction to lay the first length of streetcar track on the bridge in early November. While the rail installation extended construction on the bridge for about 10 days, it ensured that the bridge will remain open during downtown streetcar construction in 2014.
