City receives national Distinguished Budget Award
The City of Kansas City, Mo., has received one of the highest national awards for its budget, announced the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
The association recently recognized the City with its Distinguished Budget Award for “meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting” in four categories: a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
Randall J. Landes, City finance director, accepted the award on behalf of the City.
“This award is the culmination of much teamwork, effort and dedication from our Budget Division staff who completely renovated the budget document and re-engineered its production process,” he said. “The revamped budget is a perfect complement to the long-term financial planning efforts of the City Council.”
Scott Huizenga, budget officer, added, “I am greatly appreciative of the budget team that put our plan together. We will continue to sustain and enhance our budget presentation annually so that we have a budget document that is clear, concise and creative. It is gratifying to have the City’s work recognized and validated by an internationally recognized institution.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional group serving more than 17,800 government finance professionals throughout North America. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
