Aim4Peace awarded $1.2 million grant by U.S. Department of Justice

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department’s Aim4Peace program has been selected by the U.S. Department of Justice to receive a three-year grant for $1.2 million to begin in October. The grant, one of six awarded nationwide by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, focuses on getting high risk youth involved in violence prevention efforts.

“This grant will allow Aim4Peace to expand their violence-prevention services in the East Patrol District,” said Rex Archer, MD, MPH, director of the Health Department. “That they were chosen for this very competitive grant indicates that the Justice Department sees the tremendous value of the work currently being done by Aim4Peace.”

The grant will provide resources to allow Aim4Peace, which previously operated primarily in East Patrol District Sector 330, to also reach into Sectors 320 and 340. By encouraging teen involvement in violence prevention outreach and interaction with the community, the program will promote alternatives to violence to help make communities safer.
