Cause and origin investigation completed for JJ’s Restaurant explosion and fire
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Fire Department, City of Kansas City, Mo., Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have conducted a cause and origin investigation of the explosion and fire at JJ’s Restaurant.
The investigation determined the explosion and fire were caused by the accidental ignition of natural gas vapors that accumulated inside JJ’s Restaurant.
The KCFD report being released today is the cause & origin report. A separate investigation into the cause of the natural gas line breach is currently being conducted by the Missouri Public Service Commission and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
It is appropriate at this juncture to direct inquiries about the ongoing investigation to those agencies that they may provide information they deem consistent with the direction of their investigations.
