Streetcar open house rescheduled for March 6
The City of Kansas City, Mo., will host a public meeting on Wednesday, March 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Union Station, 30 W. Pershing Road, in Kansas City to discuss the Kansas City Downtown Streetcar project.
The meeting will be conducted as an open house and no formal presentations will be given. The public is invited to stop by anytime during the three-hour meeting. Detailed exhibits will be on display to illustrate the two-mile route, and information about construction, station stops and the vehicle maintenance facility will also be available. With construction slated to start in late spring or early summer, property owners, business owners and residents along the route are encouraged to attend the meeting and share their thoughts and concerns with representatives of the City and the consultant team.
The Downtown Streetcar is a two-mile starter line running generally along Main Street from the River Market to Union Station. The streetcar will provide an attractive transit option to more conveniently connect people and places. It will also support regional and City efforts to develop downtown Kansas City as a more vibrant and successful urban center. The total project is estimated to cost $102 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2013 and the Downtown Streetcar will open in summer 2015.
Visit the Downtown Streetcar website at www.kcstreetcar.org for updates on the project and road closure and detour information. You can also call the streetcar hotline at 816-822-3011.
