Leaf and Brush Drop-off Centers open next three weekends

Temporary drop-off center open for Clay, Platte county residents due to EAB quarantine

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Leaf and Brush Drop-off Centers will be open for the next three weekends to allow residents to dispose of woody debris created by this past week’s snowstorms. All drop-off centers will be open on March 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This service is free for residents. Please bring proof of residency.

The City’s main Leaf and Brush Drop-off Centers are located at 1815 N. Chouteau Trafficway and 10301 Raytown Road. Residents who live in Jackson and Cass counties in Kansas City, Mo., may use these two sites to dispose of woody debris.

Clay and Platte counties in Kansas City, Mo., have been placed under a federal and state quarantine due to the presence of the Emerald Ash Borer pest. Due to the quarantine, Clay and Platte county residents may not use the Chouteau Trafficway and Raytown Road drop-off sites.

Instead, the City has set up a third, temporary Leaf and Brush Drop-off Center for residents who live in Clay and Platte counties. This temporary site is located at the Pleasant Valley Road Athletic Complex, 6401 N.E. Pleasant Valley Road.

The Emerald Ash Borer is a small metallic green beetle native to Asia. It was first detected in the United States in Michigan in 2002. Since that time it has spread to other states including Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and Kansas. Ten of millions of ash trees in forest, rural and urban areas have already been killed or are heavily infested by this pest. The broad distribution of this pest in the United States is primarily due to people inadvertently transporting firewood, unprocessed logs and infested ash nursery stock.
