City places Champ’s on probation, suspends liquor license for seven days
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Regulated Industries Division has placed Champ’s Blues & Jazz, a tavern, on probation for a period of six months. The City and Champ’s also agreed upon a seven-day suspension of Champ’s liquor license. Champ’s is located at 3900 Jackson Ave.
Champ’s was placed on probation and agreed to a suspension due to recent ordinance violations, which included disturbances that occurred at or stemmed from the business and an altercation that occurred inside the business that resulted in a vehicular hit and run. The probationary period began on Jan. 15 and will end on July 15.
In order to successfully complete the probationary period, Champ’s must comply with all liquor license ordinances and cannot cause a nuisance to or change in character of the residential area or the immediate area surrounding the business. Should Champ’s fail to successfully complete the probationary period, they will be required to obtain consents from a majority of all eligible neighboring property owners in order to retain all liquor licenses and permits.
The suspension will begin Sunday, Feb. 6 at 6 a.m. and end Sunday, Feb. 13 at 1:30 a.m.
