Engage KC Leadership Board: Now accepting applications!
The City of Kansas City, Mo., invites young people ages 16-22 to apply to the Engage KC Leadership Board, a six-month leadership development program. Engage KC is designed to engage young people with an interest in public service and help build their leadership capacity in preparation for careers in the field of public service.
Applications are due Monday, Dec. 31 and may be accessed online at www.kcmo.org/engagekc. The program will begin in January and conclude in June 2013.
Engage KC objectives include:
Give participants a broad understanding of public service as a career.
Examine important urban issues facing Kansas City and other major U.S. cities.
Introduce participants to the civic institutions of Kansas City.
Help prepare participants with the leadership skills to engage in these issues in their future careers.
The Engage KC Leadership Board experience features a combination of classroom discussions to promote a basic understanding of Kansas City and its municipal government and governance. It also includes active practical activities like tours, field trips and networking events to expose participants to the urban issues Kansas City faces and the leaders and institutions tackling those issues.
Trips will include tours of local nonprofits and government agencies, a trip to Jefferson City for a discussion with state legislators, and a trip to Washington D.C. for the National League of Cities’ Congressional Cities Conference.
