Wastewater overflow in Fishing River Watershed

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department reports a wastewater overflow due to a mechanical failure at the Fishing River Wastewater Treatment Plant located east of Northeast 120th Street and North Home Avenue in northern Kansas City, Mo., at 9 p.m., Saturday, June 9.

Approximately 30,000 gallons of wastewater overflowed onto the ground and into Fishing River. The overflow ended at 11 p.m. “No contact with water” signs were posted, lime was applied to the affected area and samples were taken.

The Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department maintains and operates water collection, processing and distribution systems, stormwater management and control systems, and waste water collection and processing systems for residential and business customers in Kansas City and for wholesale customers in the Kansas City region. Operation is funded by fees charged to customers based on their use of products and services.
