Penn Valley Drive traffic closure begins June 5
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Parks and Recreation Department is advising motorists that northbound traffic on Penn Valley Drive between 27th and 31st streets will be completely closed beginning Tuesday, June 5. In addition, southbound traffic on Penn Valley Drive between 27th and 31st streets will be completely closed beginning Wednesday, June 6.
The alternative route identified for northbound and southbound traffic through Penn Valley Park is Main Street.
This $3.4 million project will improve the safety and appearance of Penn Valley Drive by adjusting the alignment of the road and providing new curbs, gutters, storm drainage and streetscaping. The project also includes improvements to Penn Valley Lake and the expansion of the skateboard park. In early summer, new curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be added to 29th Street, and both 29th Street and Kessler Road will be repaved.
The improvements are paid for with funding from the Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC), GO Bonds and Southtown TIF Project I monies. The construction is being completed by the Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with J.M. Fahey Construction Company.
The west side of Penn Valley Drive will be reopened in early July with one lane each of traffic travelling both north and southbound. All lanes on Penn Valley Drive will reopen when construction is complete, which is anticipated to be in mid-August 2012, pending favorable weather.
