FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 23, 2012

Valve test, repair in the area of Raytown Road, Blue Ridge Cut-Off tonight

Residents may experience low or no water pressure overnight

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department will perform a water valve test on Wednesday, May 23 at 11 p.m. in preparation for a valve replacement at Raytown Road and Blue Ridge Cut-Off. During this period, crews will also replace a leaking valve on 55th Street, just west of Blue Ridge Cut-Off.

Customers in the area of 23rd Street south to 75th Street; and Booth Avenue east to the City limits may experience low water or no water pressure for short periods during the test. A map of the affected area can be viewed by visiting http://www.kcmo.org/idc/groups/water/documents/waterservices/areamap1.pdf.

The test is anticipated to be completed by 6 a.m.

“Valve maintenance is critical to the operation of the City’s water system and our ability to minimize the number of customers affected during repairs,” said Water Services Director Terry Leeds. “We appreciate our customers’ patience with this effort and will strive to return service as quickly as possible.”

If the test is successful Wednesday night, work will be scheduled in the near future to replace the additional valve.
