City receives two awards for financial reports
The Government Finance Officers Association has awarded the City of Kansas City, Mo., with two of its most prestigious awards: the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” and the “Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting.”
The City received the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” for its Fiscal Year 2010-11 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This is the 23rd consecutive year the City has achieved this award, which is the highest form of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting.
“The City’s attainment of this award for 23 consecutive years represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” said Randall Landes, director of Finance.
An impartial panel judged the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report to determine if it met the award’s selective criteria, including whether it demonstrated a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read it.
The City received the “Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting” for its Fiscal Year 2010-11 Popular Annual Financial Report. This prestigious, national award recognizes state and local government popular reports that have adhered to the highest standard of preparation.
In order to receive an “Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting,” a government unit must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report, whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
