Northeast 108th Street between I-435 and North Hardesty Avenue to close
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is advising residents that Northeast 108th Street from I-435 west to North Hardesty Avenue, including the intersection of Northeast 108th Street and North Hardesty Avenue, will close for construction beginning Monday, April 16 as construction of Northeast 108th Street west of I-435 continues. During this closure, motorists can use I-435, 96th Street and North Topping Avenue as detour routes.
Construction of Northeast 108th Street will create a new two-lane arterial street section, which will include sidewalks, curbs, gutters and streetlights. The new roadway will create an important link between I-435 and the North Kansas City School District Complex and is part of a larger corridor improvement plan.
"This construction is one more important step in improving the connections between our schools and neighborhoods in this growing part of the city," said First District At-Large Councilman Scott Wagner.
The improvement is being paid for with bonds recently issued by the Shoal Creek Tax Increment Financing District. The Shoal Creek TIF District is using the tax revenue generated in the Route 152 and Flintlock commercial district to pay for off-site street improvements along the Northeast 108th Street, North Eastern Avenue, Northeast 76th Street and Shoal Creek Parkway corridors.
This work is being completed by the City’s Public Works Department and Hunt Midwest for the Shoal Creek Tax Increment Financing District.
The road is scheduled to reopen in late 2012 pending favorable weather.
