Construction on Penn Valley Drive begins March 28
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Parks and Recreation Department is advising motorists that Penn Valley Drive between 27th and 31st streets will be restricted to one lane northbound and one lane southbound beginning Wednesday, March 28, as the Penn Valley Park: Road and Lake Improvements Project begins.
This $3.4 million project will improve the safety and appearance of Penn Valley Drive by adjusting the alignment of the road and providing new curbs, gutters, storm drainage and streetscaping. The project also includes improvements to Penn Valley Lake and the expansion of the skateboard park. In early summer, new curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be added to 29th Street, and both 29th Street and Kessler Road will be repaved.
The improvements are paid for with funding from the Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC), GO Bonds and Southtown TIF Project I monies. The construction is being completed by the Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with J.M. Fahey Construction Company.
The closed lanes on Penn Valley Drive will reopen when construction is complete, which is anticipated to be in mid-August 2012, pending favorable weather.
