Mayor Pro Tem Circo appointed to NLC’s Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Steering Committee

City of Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Circo has been appointed to the National League of Cities’ 2012 Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Steering Committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving air quality, water quality, energy policy, national wetlands policy, noise control, and solid and hazardous waste management. The appointment was announced by NLC President Ted Ellis, mayor of Bluffton, Ind.

“Kansas City, Mo., continues to lead the nation in ‘green’ engineering in terms of overflow control issues,” said Mayor Pro Tem Circo. “I am proud to continue the work of Councilwoman Jan Marcason, who served on the NLC Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Steering Committee last term, in ensuring that Kansas City, Mo., has a place at the federal table and serves as a national model for other cities striving for the incorporation of green infrastructure and community-based approaches in meeting federal clean water standards.”

As a member of the committee, Mayor Pro Tem Circo will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions, while advocating on behalf of America’s cities and towns on Capitol Hill, with the Administration, and at home.

The chair of this year’s Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee is Michael A. Sesma, council member in Gaithersburg, Md. Serving as this year’s vice chairs are Matt Applebaum, mayor of Boulder, Colo.; and Mary Hamann-Roland, mayor of Apple Valley, Minn.
