City announces Grade A Food Excellence Award recipients
The City of Kansas City, Mo., announced on Feb. 2 the recipients of the Health Department’s eighth annual Grade A Food Excellence Award. There were 213 food service establishments that qualified for the award this year, including full scale restaurants, fast-food establishments, school cafeterias, bakeries, convenience stores and grocery stores, among others.
The award recognizes food establishments that have continuously demonstrated excellence in compliance with the City’s food code and other public health standards established by the Health Department. The award is valid for one year and is based on cumulative inspection reports throughout 2011. The 2012 awards will be announced next year.
The Health Department recognizes that excellence is most fully achieved when food service management fully endorses employee education and training. Therefore, the 2011 Grade A Food Excellence Award is being awarded to establishments that have exhibited excellence in sanitation and food safety, as well as evidence of successful employee education.
All food establishments in Kansas City, Mo., are inspected regularly by the Health Department, and if they are open it means that they have passed their inspections. The establishments recognized with this award have substantially exceeded the standards set in the Food Code.
The full list of recipients and further information on the award is available on the Health Department Web page at www.kcmo.org/health.
