Youth Commission informational event to be March 26
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Youth Advocacy Office, a division of the City Manager's Office, is hosting a meet and greet event for perspective applicants to the Kansas City Youth Commission on March 26 from 4-6 p.m. in the first floor rotunda of City Hall, 414 E. 12th St. Applicants must be Kansas City, Mo., residents ages 12-23.
At the event, past commissioners, the city manager and elected officials will answer questions and provide details about service on the commission.
“We hope all youth interested in the commission will come down and learn a little about the opportunities the commission has to offer,” said Thalia Cherry, youth advocate manager. “It will be a good venue to ask questions and meet some of the City’s decision-makers.”
Youth commission members will be chosen through a competitive process. The 17 young people who are selected will be the official youth voice in the City's decision-making process, and advocate for the needs and wants of the city's youth. Commissioners will be called upon to encourage political involvement among their peers.
The deadline to apply for the Kansas City Youth Commission is April 2 at 5 p.m. To submit or download an application, visit the Youth Advocacy Web site at http://www.kcmo.org/youth. Completed applications also can be sent to: Youth Advocacy Office, 414 E. 12th St., 25th floor, Kansas City, MO 64106.
