FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 31, 2012

City real estate taxes now collected by Clay County

The City of Kansas City, Mo., is partnering with Clay County for the consolidated billing and collection of real property taxes. Beginning Nov. 1, 2012, residents of Kansas City, Mo., and Clay County will begin receiving a single bill from Clay County that will include real property taxes from both the county and the city.

In addition, Clay County has agreed to include on each bill any delinquent city real estate taxes. Paid tax receipts will not be issued until all amounts appearing on the county bill have been paid, including current and delinquent city real estate taxes.

“The City is pleased to partner with Clay County to provide added convenience for our mutual customers. Residents of Clay County and Kansas City will now enjoy the benefits of consolidated billing and collection in the same way residents of Cass, Jackson and Platte counties have enjoyed for years,” said First District at Large Councilman Scott Wagner, who, along with First District Councilman Dick Davis, spearheaded the effort to reach agreement with the county.

“This partnership would not have been possible without the leadership of Clay County Collector Lydia McEvoy and Presiding Commissioner Pam Mason,” said City Treasurer Tammy Queen. “I thank each of them for their tireless work on some tough issues to come to an agreement that provides the ultimate benefit to our mutual taxpayers.”

For more information about the consolidated billing and collection project, contact City Treasurer Tammy Queen at 816-513-1019 or visit the Clay County website at https://www.claycountymo.gov.
