City offers new option for leaf and brush disposal

The City of Kansas City, Mo., regularly offers residents two curbside leaf and brush collections and operates two leaf and brush drop-off sites, which are open on Saturdays and free for residents to use. In addition, the City has announced a new option: residents can now pay a small fee to dispose their leaf and brush on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at the City’s leaf and brush drop-off site located at 1815 N. Chouteau Trafficway.

The City has extended the site’s days of operation to give residents who are busy on Saturdays the opportunity to still dispose their yard waste. While tax dollars are used to support the drop-off sites on Saturdays, user fees support the expanded hours and additional convenience at Chouteau. Residents who use the site on its new days of operation will be charged $1 for each lawn and leaf sack or plastic bag. Loose leaves and brush will cost $5/cubic yard. The drop-off site will continue to be free on Saturdays.

The City’s other drop-off site, located just south of I-470 on the east side of Raytown Road, will keep its regular schedule, open on Saturdays only. Both sites are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition, the City will hold two curbside leaf and brush collections this fall. Residents who live between the Missouri River north to the City’s northern city limit will receive curbside collection the weeks of Oct. 31 and Nov. 28. Residents who live between the Missouri River south to 63rd Street and west of Blue Ridge Cutoff will receive it the weeks of Nov. 7 and Dec. 5. Residents who live between 63rd Street and the southern City limit and east of Blue Ridge Cutoff will receive it the weeks of Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.
